Clitheroe (Ribble Valley) - Mercure Blackburn Foxfields Country Hotel

Friendly restaurant staff. Reception could be a little more friendly although they were very professional booking us in. but nice to have a friendly greeting whilst passing through reception to and from rooms. Definitely book again or try one of the other hotels in the same group.

the room was lovely, althought the varandah door was broken (would not close). We were offered another room but decided to stay put. The food was lovvely but as it was out of season the staff in the restaurant / bar/ reception seemed really stretched but were lovely and couldn't have done more to help us.

The staff were fantastic and, even though the hotel is somewhat 'tired' in decor, it was excellent value for money!

The quality of the service at the Mecure Clitheroe was first class .The room was very spacious and comfortable.The staff were brilliant and the package we went on which was all inclusive and certainly value for money. The Petre Arms just down the road was brilliant, people nice ,beer very cheap and a grand little pub.

Had a fantastic stay. Although the Hotel and Restaurant appeared 'simple', we loved it because there was nothing false or put on by it or anyone there. Everyone that was working at the hotel were very polite and helpful. Only thing I was not too happy about was the menu options were fairly limited BUT Excellent all the same....

Everything about the Hotel was excellent. we were upgraded to a suite which was superb, The Hotel was clean and the service excellent. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Excellent value.

Have just returned from a 3night all inclusive break and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation was very good and the restaurant was extremely good. The staff were attentive and polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our friends came over and had a meal with us and they also were very impressed with the food and the service. Well Done!

We arrived at the hotel needing a well earned break and we were not dissapointed, the suite was excellent, the staff polite but friendly and nothing was any trouble. The only complaint was the seafood salad on our last night, it consisted of some sald leaves some which were bitter, a few very small prawns and a piece of fish, this was finished with a dressing and a small amount of seafood sauce. sorry but it didn't live up to the promise of the menu, and then to make matters worst the cheese and biscuits did not have any chutney. These small things marred what was a pretty perfect break.

Absolutely fantastic couldnt fault any part of the offer. The hotel was lovely, food was great, room was lovely and the restaurant and bar staff were brilliant, all friendly, attentive and courteous. Definitely will go to this hotel again.

The hotel is situated in a lovely location near to the pretty viallage of Whalley. Clitheroe is also only a few miles away and worth a visit to explore the towns castle and shops/market. Great breakfast and quality evening meal on both nights - Staff in the bar and restuarant were very friendly and tried hard to ensure we was enjoying our evening

The hotel and location were excellent. The administration at the hotel seems sloppy. We arrived at 12.25 and given a room that hadn't been cleaned or linen changed. We went back and said we would go out to dinner to give them time to clean it. When we returned, the room still hadn't been cleaned. We were immediately offered another room which was lovely. The restaurant staff were excellent especially the manager. Food was good. A lovely weekend and well worth the money paid.

The hotel is in the middle of refurbishment after having been taken over by the Mercure group. At the moment the hotel ias very dated, but once the renovation has taken place, I would happily stay there again. It is in a beautiful location and the rooms are very large.

This is the first hotel break we have had where there was so much room . A large bedroom ,large en-suite plus a large lounge with flat screen TVs in both rooms . Brilliant value for a all inclusive break

Staff very friendly; but service in resturant very poor and slow.

Would have liked the bar to be open at lunch time, having said that the staff were only too happy to bring drinks to us, but it lacked atmosphere. We really enjoyed the stay and the food in the evening was excellent.

When we booked in we were provided with a suite, consisting of a lounge, which had a settee, easy chair and dining table etc plus plasma TV. The bedroom was of a reasonable size with plasma TV whilst the bathroom had recently been refurbished and had a separate shower area. There have been comments that the hotel is 'tired' and wants some bringing up to date and this is shown by bare plaster board in the bar and dining room areas but information suggests the new owners are in the process of undertaking the work. Some of the dining chairs in the room were stained but a good clean would remedy this slight problem The restaurant food left something to be desired -too much use of the micro wave, which was not enhanced when the bar man had to leave his duties to visit local shops to buy some 'chips' and from later comments this seems a regular occurrence, leaving his duties to inexperienced but enthusiastic and helpful staff. However a very good value weekend and I'm sure once the current intended rebuilding work is completed it will provide an excellent venue.

The ratings have been pulled down by the condition of the carpets in terms of visual (badly stained in some areas) and some cleanliness problems. Having said that we have had a very good break and we understand the whole Mercure group are in the middle of a multi-million pound refurbishment programme and once completed should be superb accommodation. The suite was larger than any we have previously stayed in and also had a superb bathroom.

The package was excellent value.The food was good and the staff,particularly the locals,were friendly and professional.

An excellent value 2 night short break,- the staff were friendly and helpful and the room spacious. The set menu could have been varied between the nights, but the food was good

My party included 2 men each with our wives and we had booked an all inclusive deal arriving Tuesday lunchtime and checking out late Thursday morning.The whole experience was a joy from start to finish.We were each upgraded to a suite with King sized bed,flatscreen TV in bedroom and lounge with an enormous bathroom with separate shower and toilet cubicles within.The staff were bright friendly and efficicient and the speed of service was good. Nothing was too much trouble and there was no discrepancy between the terms and conditions of the all inclusive deal identified at the time of booking and what we received. When we came to settle our bill for the extra food and drinks we had requested these were accurately recorded. This mini break represented excellent value for money and I'd certainly use this hotel again and any other in the group for that matter. Peter F

This is the second visit to Foxfields and I would certainly recommend it.

The position of the hotel was very good for visiting neighbouring areas of both Lancashire and Yorkshire. The overall impression of the hotel and staff was good but maybe a uniform with the hotel's logo on would be a useful addition so that quests could be aware of which personel were staff and which visiting guests.

We preferred the mid-week breakfast rather than the buffet provided at the weekend

this hotel is situated in a lovely part of the ribble valley. Lots of local walks or small towns to visit. In some places the hotel is in need of refurbishment but the staff made up for any disappointments. Pleasant, friendly and professional at all times from cleaner, waiter & reception staff. Hotel bedroom biggest we have ever stopped in - separate lounge area, large bathroom though very weak power shower. Egyption cotton sheets & lovely comfortable bed. Food exceptional. Will most certainly be visiting again

excellent room,had seperate living room, bedroom and bathroom with both shower cubicle, bath and seperate toilet. lesuire facilities with indoor swimming pool,gym, sauna and steamroom.had a great stay .only slight let down was evening meal, more pub grub than restaurant quality. but overall excellent value for money

this hotel was excellent, the room was first class. the staff were excellent in all areas could not fault it.the food was very good.would come back again

We would be more than happy to return to such a fabulous hotel but geographically we are 4hours away.

Original allocated room was fine but people in the room above us were very noisy -- it was constant techno-rubbish on some sort of stereo , so we requested a move . This was provided , so no more noise . Dinners were very good , breakfasts less so . Our second room needed a hoover out and almost all the chairs that we could see in the hotel needed their upholstery cleaning ---- most had serious marking from liquids .

Although the bar and restaurant areas were being refurbished there was no disruption to guests. The staff were helpful and very polite. The room was excellent with a patio door onto the grassed area, pity the sun didn't shine and then we could have opened it. Other reviews have said about marks on carpets etc. Well, yes there is but is this not down to the guests themselves? The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows perfect. We had a lovely stay dispite the near hurricane conditions and would stay again at this hotel.

Room was brilliant a suite with a lounge and was really good to have a balcony, bathroom was bright and clean. Staff were very good and attentive, yet remained discreet. The hotel itself is in a lovely setting.

The suites are very spacious and the food is excellent. Unfortunately this time our bed was a 'drop-down' from a wall and wasn't as comfy or as big as the beds in the other suites.

The hotel was in a lovely part of the country, very restful. The staff went out of their way to help and on the first night, there were no problems. Unfortunately, on the second night, there was a 'do' on at the hotel and I don't believe they had anticipated that they needed to get extra staff in. We could not order our meal when we wanted to and had to wait - this was fine, but we had not been told that we would have to wait unless we ordered before eight o clock when we booked the time for our meal. The food was excellent and very well presented both nights but I feel that the hotel do need to double check how many staff they think they might need if they have functions on. There was one man who was trying to take orders, man the bar and also serve food! They were also taking glasses off the tables to put into the other room where the function was! Apart from the hiccup on our second night, we would go back to this hotel and would recommend to friends.

Certainly will stay at this hotel again. In fact we extended our stay for another couple of days. excellent value for money and staff were very friendly.

I hav eanswered no to the question woud you stay in thsi hotel again because it was a short break and we would want to go to a different area.

The evening meal on Sunday was not nice, we compared it to the Mercure in Hull where we stayed in August. It was totaly different on Monday night, it was absolutely delicious. Staff members Christine and Ed were very helpful indeed and nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all a fantastic short break and I am looking forward to returning at some point.

The room,in particular,was superb--very spacious and a good view.To be a liitle picky,the choice of main courses was very limited compared to the starters and this would be a problem if you were staying more than two nights.The service throughout was very friendly and efficient.

Hotel fab,deal was amazing,I'm already looking for my next deal!

Our accommodation was an executive suite which was so comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities were plentiful. Our bedroom and bathroom were lovely and the bed so comfy too. We will be telling all our friends and relatives to use this Hotel when they are in the Clitheroe area and will be coming back ourselves. Many thanks Mercure.

Provided every thing I would expect from a Hotel, good food, good service, comfortable and warm with some good facilities. The rooms and decor generally, have been improved since our last visit. Staff appear to be genuinely happy to help and all for a reasonable rate. Well done!

although I have written NO for staying again at the hotel and also for recommending the hotel, if the food ahd been of a higher standard then I would have said YES to both these questions. It really let the hotel down in our opinion, almost like a transport cafe or greasy spoon repast.

Excellent value for money break. Lovely room with a separate seating area. The staff were helpful, pleasant and polite. Some minor issues. The changing rooms in the leisure club are in need of some updating. The hotel did not seem 'geared up' to providing service through the day. We had to look for someone to serve us a drink and despite menus being available on the tables stating sandwiches were available 24 hours, this seemed a surprise to the receptionist. Saying this though she rose to the challenge and made us a sandwich herself. This was a lovely break, great value and we hope to visit again soon.

Enjoyed 4 day break at Mercure Foxfields Hotel, Blackburn. Cannot fault the hotel staff one bit!! Could not do enough for us when asked for assistance. Dinner was of the highest quality. Breakfast a little indifferent-in that choice was not always available. However, still plenty to eat . Appreciated the room upgrade.

Had a lovely weekend away. The hotel was lovely and the room was outstanding. Excellent value for money! The all inclusive option was an added bonus.

I thought that this hotel provided superb value for money. The food and facilities were great (and currently undergoing some necessary modernisation work). The hotel staff (reception, bar and cleaning staff), however, were what made us want to go back there - as we intend to. They were so polite and helpful. They made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to provide excellent service.

Main course at dinner ==poor choice

The practice of opening an adjacent fire exit door resulted in the hotel passageway and bedroom temperaure dropping which was difficult to counteract with current heating system....otherwise an excellent stay.

A very pleasant stay, staff were helpful nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel is good - rooms spacious and comfortable. Service good and friendly. Breakfast is also very good. The swimming pool is very nice although the changing rooms and shower area are in definite need of modernisation.

The best room that we have stayed in - a double bedroom complete with lounge. Two TVs, a couch, an easy chair as well as a table and chairs. It was also great to have a bathroom with separate shower and a bath . All in all a great weekend
