Kensington Palace has been a royal home to some of Britain's most famous kings and queens since 1689, and parts of the palace still remain a private residence for some Royal Family members. Kensington Palace was once a favoured home of some of Britain's most famous kings and queens and the setting for many great events and dramas in royal history. Kensington's best known resident in recent years was Diana, Princess of Wales (1961-97) who occupied apartments in the north-west part of the palace from 1981 to 1997. The magnificent State Apartments are open to the public where you can learn about the more personal side of royal life at Kensington Palace. These spectacular rooms retain much of their original decoration and some are furnished with paintings and works of art from the Royal Collection. You can also view the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, a unique presentation of royal, court and ceremonial dress dating back to the 18th century.
