The original house dates back to the 18th century and was built of local granite, only 2 storeys high. The distinctive turrets which now form part of its facade were added later.
All of the existing coach houses and stable blocks have been renovated and refurbished. There are now a total of 64 apartments, coach houses and pole lodges - plus 81 bedrooms in the hotel.
